Bluehost Review:

Bluehost is a very well know hosting service that offers shared hosting, dedicated hosting, vps hosting, domains, emails, and more. It is our favorite choice for hosting because of the multiple advantages we will cover below. Although there are some downsides, the low cost makes it worth it. At the end of the day, Bluehost is a good tool to support your business and website. I have been a Bluehost customer for over a year so I have a positive opinion of it. It’s a top choice for hosting for a variety of other well known hosting review sites as well. it’s a dependable business that works especially well with WordPress websites. I’d give it 4.5/5 stars!

Bluehost Ecommerce

Bluehost is a good hosting platform for a wordpress powered Ecommerce site. It offers good scalability so you can scale up as you grow and get more traffic. Bluehost connects with WooCommerce and WordPress so anyone can make a fully functional ecommerce site.

What is Bluehost?

Bluehost is a leading hosting provider who focuses on providing quality hosting services at competitive prices. Bluehost has exceeded the mark when it comes to first year pricing, server speeds, ease of use for beginners, and security. It’s been around for almost 20 years (2003) and it currently powers millions of websites on the internet. It’s great for eCommerce sites, new startups, small to medium sized businesses and everything in between. Coming in at $2.95/month, Bluehost is also one of the cheaper hosting services on the market while still delivering an exceptional hosting experience. My Bluehost review is relatively positive because it’s worked well and had a positive impact on my business. If you want to keep reading, you will find some really helpful content. If you want to sign up for an account and get a 67% discount for Bluehost, click this link.

In order to have a website you need 3 things. A domain, web hosting, and a way to build the website. Bluehost has a solution which can solve all 3 points so you have everything you need when you sign up. The domain is free, the hosting is great, and it connects into the world’s most popular website builder – WordPress.

10 Benefits of Bluehost – Bluehost Advantages

  1. Low prices for all plans (plans start at $2.95/month).
  2. Helpful support who will help you with your website or hosting issues.
  3. Quick server speeds which improve ecommerce sales/conversion and SEO.
  4. Best value for your money when it comes to hosting.
  5. Great security features and add ons.
  6. Beginner friendly hosting provider – great for your first site.
  7. Fast speeds across the globe which makes them a good global hosting provider.
  8. Free Domain for first year and free SSL forever.
  9. Lets you use a Bluehost WordPress builder or disable the Bluehost plugin to build a regular WordPress site.
  10. You can add on a professional email plan to give your team company emails.

5 Bluehost Disadvantages – Downsides to Bluehost

  1. Bluehost themes + Bluehost builder is not as good as the classic WordPress + Elementor combination. At least you can disable Bluehost builder in your backend. Click here to learn how.
  2. Prices don’t stay as low as $2.95. They go up once the hosting renews after the paid time period.
  3. They try to upsell you on buying an SSL and other security features which you can get for free in some cases.
  4. No uptime guarantee. If the website goes down, you don’t get reimbursed.
  5. Have to pay in order to migrate your site from another hosting provider to Bluehost which can be expensive.

Bluehost Shared Hosting vs Dedicated Hosting vs VPS Hosting

Shared Hosting: Shared hosting works by hosting multiple websites on one server. Some have compared shared hosting to a public bus system, because it is inexpensive to use, and involves sharing resources with other users. Hundreds or even thousands of websites can be hosted on a single server, which creates advantages and disadvantages.

Dedicated Hosting: Dedicated hosting means your website is hosted on a single server that is dedicated specifically to your website. This cuts out the competition of resources associated with shared hosting, and results in more robust website performance.

VPS Hosting: Virtual Private Server (VPS) is hosting that virtually mimics dedicated server environments within a shared server. VPS hosting has become a popular choice because it is generally lower in cost than dedicated hosting but provides better reliability, security, and performance than shared hosting.

Bluehost Pricing Explained

Bluehost 36 months shared hosting pricing structure:

If you want the best bang for your buck, I would recommend the basic hosting for 36 months. This would be great for a beginner who knows they will be running a website for a few years to come. I would only recommend choice plus if you have a few sites to run or manage. There is no downside to choosing choice plus when deciding between that and regular choice since there is no cost difference. The basic plan will give you one website with 50GB of space, and unlimited bandwidth. You also get one free domain for the first year, five parked domains, and 25 sub-domains. Additional features of this plan include 5 email accounts with 100 MB of storage each.

Bluehost 12 months shared hosting pricing structure

If you don’t want to commit for as long, I understand. This is still relatively cheap hosting but there is not as much of a discount as there is when choosing 36 months. Again, there are 4 options and most people with 1 site only need the basic plan.

Users are guaranteed the resources on their VPS web hosting account. It’s going to cost more per month than shared hosting but less than dedicated hosting.

Dedicated hosting is the most powerful and the most expensive. If you have a big business and need servers all to yourself, then dedicated hosting is right for you. Magazines like Forbes may need dedicated servers while a blog like mine can get by with just using shared hosting.

Bluehost package extras

Here are all the add ons once you are about to check out. They added domain privacy protection, SSL, and Sitelock. I only think the domain privacy protection is worth it. You can contact support or read about how to set up an SSL on your site for FREE so you don’t need to pay for it here. The sitelock security is good if you’re worried about security but it’s an extra $35 per month. Think of it like buying insurance when you get a new device. I don’t buy it but it can be helpful just so things don’t go wrong.

Who owns Bluehost?

Bluehost is a web hosting company owned by Newfold Digital. It is one of the 20 largest web hosts, collectively hosting well over 2 million domains. Web.com Group Inc. merged with competitor Endurance International Group into a new company called Newfold Digital. Here are some of the brands that Newfold Digital owns (besides Bluehost). Google says they are owned by Endurance International Group but they rebranded. as Newfold digital. Notice how they also own web.com, Hostgator, and plenty of other great web/hosting companies.

It’s quite impressive that they have so much brand power across the world. Now let’s talk about Bluehost servers and data warehouses.

Bluehost Data Centers

The location of Bluehost servers is undisclosed so I don’t have that information. The data centers in India are for Bluehost. In and the data centers in China are for Cn.Bluehost.com

Is Bluehost good for domains?

Yes, and it is super easy to register a domain on Bluehost. When you sign up for a plan, you get a domain free for a year!

If you just want the domain and don’t want to buy hosting, the domain will cost $12.99 for a .com, $9.99 for a .org, $14.99 for a .net. Most people will get the domain for free the first year and you only have to pay the renewal price each year after.

The renewal prices for domain names at Bluehost cost $17.99 a year for a .com, $17.99 for a .org, $18.99 for .net domains and $29.99 if you are looking for a .co.uk.

Heres how to register a domain.

  1. Log in to your Bluehost control panel.
  2. Click the Domains tab from the left-side navigation.
  3. Click the Purchase Domain option from the sub-navigation.
  4. Enter the domain name you would like to register, then click Check.
  5. Click the cart icon next to an available domain, then click Next.

How to Install WordPress on Bluehost

  1. Pick a Bluehost Plan
  2. Choose a Domain Name
  3. Finish Signing Up
  4. Log In and Install WordPress
  5. Launch Your Site

WordPress comes free with Bluehost. They also offer a service called Bluehost Website Builder but I personally don’t like using it. I recommend setting up WordPress through Bluehost and then, go to plugins and uninstall Bluehost. Next, go to appearance -> themes -> and pick a new theme you like that fits well with your site. Here is a list of some great free WordPress site themes in 2021

If you need help installing WordPress on Bluehost, the customer service team should be able to help. Or ask me a question in the comments and I can help resolve your issue.

Both Bluehost and Hostagtor are fantastic choices for hosting. We prefer Bluehost because they have better features and a better value for the money. Did you know they are owned by the same parent company? Bluehost is the bteer option for making a wordpress site and it’s the better option for beginners. If value of money is most important then choose Bluehost but if you care about having the best Uptime then choose Hostgator.

How to cancel my Bluehost account

It happens. You find a different hosting provider or decided you didn’t want to renew your website for another year. If you are quick and cancel your Bluehost account within 3-30 days, then you can get a full refund on hosting but you can’t get the $15 back for the cost of the domain. You can cancel your account within 30 days of signing up or set your plan to expire at the end of the term at any time. You can set your domain to expire but you can’t get a refund on domains you have previously owned.

If you are going to cancel your account, make sure you have a backup of your website. the data you should backup includes the emails, files, and databases associated with your account.

To cancel, either do it over the phone or through the website. If you are in the US call, 888-401-4678 or anyone can visit Bluehost.com for contact options) to cancel your hosting account. Contacting support may also be a good option because they can guide you through various setup, configuration, and troubleshooting steps.

Bluehost how to backup your website

Imagine having the recipe for your great grandmothers homemade cherry pie saved on a flash drive and one day you lose it. Without a backup, that recipe is lost forever. Having a backup for your website is a really similar concept. Bluehost will let you make unlimited free backups for your website. If some code on your website breaks, it’s easier to just restore the website and fix the new addition that broke the site. We recommend to back up a site once a month and back up your ecommerce store once a week. Bluehost offers WordPress hosting which automatically creates backup files regularly so that you don’t have to. Bluehost has a built in tool to help automatically back up your site so be on the lookout for that.

Also, here are some good WordPress plugins that will help you backup your site:

  • Updraft
  • backupbuddy
  • Vaultpress

How to start a blog with Bluehost

I recently started a blog and I use Bluehost + WordPress to run it. It’s been going well and was pretty simple to get off the ground. First step in creating the Bluehost/Wordpress site was picking a Bluehost plan (I chose the basic version for 36 months). Next, I logged into the backend of Bluehost and installed WordPress. Next, you can use a Bluehost theme or disable the WordPress plugin and find a better theme. This is what it looks like for the Bluehost themes.

I don’t think the Bluehost website builder is that great. I prefer using Elementor and other WordPress themes (Astra and OceanWP make some fantastic themes). To disable the Bluehost backend, click Plugins then deactivate the Bluehost plugin.

Next, just add the theme and customize it to your liking. There is no real point in building out everything from scratch. The other thing you will have to do a lot of is WRITING!! A successful blog needs to have hundreds of blog posts so thats where you will be spending 90% of your time. If you need a lot of help setting up your website, head over to Youtube to watch some tutorials. Here is a video I used when getting started.

How to install ssl certificate Bluehost

SSL means site security lock and it’s crucial to have in order to rank higher on Google and add to your site’s security. This is something all websites should have and it adds trust. The best part is that if you use Bluehost, you can get a free SSL certificate. When I set up my website, I didn’t know how to add an SSL to my website so I contacted Bluehost support, they installed it for me.
